This is one of the first shots I took with a new (to me) lens that I got for not a lot of money. A portrait lens back in its day, it becomes a rather long telephoto when mounted on a Micro Four Thirds camera. As with all legacy lenses, I doubt I’ll use it on a regular basis, but it’s nice to have.

I took this shot on my first proper outing with the G2, on a dull, grey, Sunday morning. I had a walk along the River Tay but because of the weather I decided to keep my eyes open for detail. This is the best of a bad bunch but it was useful to spend a bit of time learning the new camera.

Panasonic GF1 + 20mm f/1.7 @ f/1.7, 1/30s, ISO 400

My last couple of shots with the GF1 before selling it. Although it’s a great camera I know I won’t use it as much as the G2 so I might as well get rid of it while it’s still worth something. I don’t think it’s worth being too sentimental about digital cameras because there will always be something better available in the future.

Just a Tree

The texture of this tree caught my eye and here’s where the G2 with its EVF came in more useful than the GF1: manual focus (the Revuenon 50 f/1.8 is an old M42 screw mount lens) is a breeze with the EVF and of course allows a steadier hold on the camera, which also allowed a rather borderline shutter speed of 1/60s to be used.

It’s amazing the shapes and patterns that you can find in nature. The above photos are of our garden table one recent frosty morning.

Panasonic GF1 + Fujinon 55mm f/2.2 + 30mm extension tube | ~f/8, 1/160s, ISO 100

I had a bit of time on my hands one evening so I scouted around the house for something that might make an interesting macro shot. When I bought my GF1 I had really wanted to get the Panasonic Leica 45mm macro lens to replace the Canon 100mm macro I had been using with the Canon 20D and 50D, but the price (£600) was simply too much too spend on a single lens. For about 1/10th the price I have a couple of legacy lenses and extension tubes (11mm, 20mm and 30mm) which provide plenty of versatility at the expense of convenience (no autofocus or auto aperture and focus range is limited when using extension tubes), and the results are just fine. The Fujinon lens exhibits quite a bit of fringing on high contrast edges, but hey it’s just a bit of fun so it’s no big deal. The Auto Revuenon lens is a perfectly decent performer when stopped down.
